Medical Missions in Guatemala: Hands to Serve and a Heart to Love

Molly Regan (2026: Gualán, Guatemala) After completing two weeks of Spanish immersion with Maximo Nivel in Antigua, Molly will serve with her partner organization, Hearts in Motion. She will live and work at their Gualan campus, assisting physical therapists in their pro bono clinic, caring for malnourished children in the nutrition center, and supporting visiting university teams for weeklong mission trips to provide compassionate medical care.

Hi! I’m Molly, a recent Belmont exercise science graduate, who is thrilled to be returning to Belmont in the fall for physical therapy school. These past years at Belmont have blessed me in countless ways. I fell in love with the city of Nashville, formed lifelong friendships, and discovered the beauty of a relationship with God. One of the greatest gifts Belmont gave me was the opportunity to serve in Guatemala alongside physical therapy students and faculty every spring break.

When I first received an email my freshman year of college about a mission trip to Guatemala, I never could have imagined the lifelong impact it would have. On that first trip, the Lord planted a seed in my heart to serve, a deep love for Guatemala, and a curiosity for physical therapy that continues to grow. These trips opened my eyes to immense poverty, child malnourishment and neglect, and limited access to supportive healthcare. Coming face to face with such overwhelming needs sparked a passion in me to continue showing up for this country and its kindhearted people each year.

While serving with Hearts in Motion, I hope to grow in my understanding of physical therapy, expand my capacity to love and serve others humbly, and deepen my relationship with Christ. I will serve as a volunteer in Hearts in Motion’s PT clinic, nutrition center, and alongside visiting mission teams. Guatemala has taught me that it is in giving that we receive, that love turns work into rest, and that my simple gift of hands to serve and a heart to love is enough for the Lord to make an impact.

I feel incredibly blessed that you have taken an interest in my project, and I cannot wait to share about my time serving in Guatemala through this blog!
