Hello! Thank you for joining me on this journey! My name is Lexi Sweeney, and I am so excited to take you with me while I learn, grow, and serve in Cape Town, South Africa.
I graduated from Belmont University in May 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. I loved my time at Belmont University, and I am thankful for all of my experiences throughout those four years because they have helped me become a better version of myself. I am an energetic, joyful, adventurous gal who absolutely loves people and the outdoors. I also love learning about how to better serve those around me, and I get re-energized by connecting deeply with others.
Starting in mid- January, I will embark on an incredible, five month journey to Cape Town, South Africa where I will be a social work intern at School of Hope, a school for vulnerable youth, and at O’ Graceland, a home for women who have aged out of foster care. There, I will be working side by side with their local social worker to help those youth in whatever ways they need. That could be anything from support groups, to educational programs, to mentorship, to home visits- what our students identify as their greatest need, we will help them navigate that. This internship is one unlike any other, and I am excited by how it lets us as social workers truly meet students where they are. I cannot wait to learn and grow as a social worker and as a person throughout these next five months. Thank you for taking time to read this blog and joining me on this journey!
