About Lindsey

LindseyI am traveling to South Africa with the understanding that I have much to learn and my stay is only temporary.

Aboriginal activist Lila Watson once said, “If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is tied up with mine, then let us work together.”

My motivation is not to save or rescue anyone, but instead I hope to contribute to the good work already happening in Cape Town. I wish to empower the local community and gain insights that I can later share with my home community. For one year, I will work with three different organizations and industries for four months each. During my stay, I will utilize the skills I have obtained from my undergraduate work in entrepreneurship and ethics at Belmont University to work in areas of sustainable development, business consulting, and human rights. When I return to the states, I will possibly work with social ventures for several years before pursuing a higher degree in law, sociology, business, or philosophy. I hope my year abroad provides time for me to contemplate about my future plans and my responsibilities as a global citizen.

Traveling Mercies,
Lindsey
